Mackinley Wang-Xu earned a Master of Architecture with a Certificate in Climate and Sustainability from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he was also awarded the Edward Allen Student Award for Excellence in Building Technology. Under Prof. John Ochsendorf, his thesis investigates the lifecycles of North American Stadiums.

He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Structural Engineering from Columbia University.

His professional experience spans internationally acclaimed studios, having worked under architects such as Sejima Kazuyo + Nishizawa Ryue (SANAA), Oana Stanescu, Junya Ishigami, and Gustavo Utrabo.

In September, he will start at Diller Scofidio + Renfro.
